The following courses are scheduled:  

Basic Surgical Skills (BSS) Course

Course Dates:

6th - 8th October 2010
24th - 26th November 2010

A 2.5 day course accredited by Royal College of Surgeons designed to introduce surgical trainees to safe surgical practice within a controlled workshop environment. It aims to ‘teach, assess and certify’ the ability of trainees to use safe and sound surgical techniques that are common to all forms of surgery.

Core Laparoscopic Skills

Course Date:
● 27th - 29th October 2010

A 3 day course accredited by Royal College of Surgeons will provide surgeons with the essential theoretical knowledge and practical experience of basic level laparoscopic surgery. The course will expand on the RCS`s Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy course and provide a much broader introduction to laparoscopic surgery and the key procedures. This will be an intensive course with plenty of opportunity to practice skills in the laboratory, using bench-top models specifically designed for the course.

Laparoscopic Study Day – Nurse Theatre Team

Course Date:

A 1 day course providing an overview to the set up and key aspects of theatre related laparoscopic items. The course content covers a number of areas including port placement, patient positioning and theatre layout, enhanced recovery, anaesthesia, use of simulators, and team assisting.

South West Laparoscopic Masterclass

Course Date: Masterclass (10.00am-4.30pm)
● 19th November 2010

A unique day of multi disciplinary laparoscopic lectures from national experts with live theatre links with representation from a cross section of Faculties including Colorectal, Gynaecology, Upper GI and Thoracic.  There will be live procedures undertaken during the day including Lap Band, Gastric Bypass and a Minimally Invasive Oesophagectomy.
